[net.jobs] Get riches

geoff@proper.UUCP (Geoff Kuenning) (02/07/84)

Callan Data Systems, a manufacturer of 68000-based scientific and
engineering workstations, is seeking several highly capable individuals for the
positions listed below. All positions are at our home office in Westlake
Village, CA, about 50 miles from LA in a semi-rural (and smog-free!)
environment.

Salaries are not simply competitive, they are appropriate to a person's
true contribution to a company that depends on its software offerings
to compete in a crowded field. Generous stock options and bonus plans are
available, offering outstanding employees the opportunity to earn much more
than their base salary, and offering the possibility of significant
additional earnings when the company goes public.

All of the positions offer (indeed, require) major technical responsibility
and independence. All candidates must be capable of working on major
projects with minimal guidance.

The following positions are available:

Junior Unix Programmer: Ideal candidates will have BSCS or equivalent
and one to four years of experience. Unix experience is
highly desirable, of course. Experience with the internals
of at least one operating system (not necessarily Unix) is
		preferred, although not necessary.

Senior Unix Programmer: Ideal candidates will have BSCS or MSCS or
equivalent and three to ten years of experience, with one to
three years of Unix experience. A background in operating
systems internals (preferably more than one and including
Unix), including drivers, is extremely desirable. Candidates
should be able to work without supervision and should be able
to lead small teams on software development projects. A
demonstrated ability to design major software systems is also
		desirable.

Graphics/Human Interface Programmer: Ideal candidates will have BSCS
or equivalent, with background in windowing and human
interfaces as well as in operating systems internals (not
necessarily Unix). This is NOT a graphics applications or
graphics library/hidden lines/image processing position. It
is a cross between "mainstream" graphics and operating
systems development. The person selected will be responsible
for the selection or development of a windowing system as well
as for the selection and maintenance of graphics packages
appropriate to a scientific workstation. Other requirements
are similar to those for the senior Unix programmer position
		listed above.

Callan Data Systems currently employs about 65 people, and occupies about
24000 square feet of floor space in a modern building. All programmers have
private offices and private high-capability workstations connected by an
Ethernet. The company is in a rapid-expansion phase as a result of the
excellent response its newest products have received in the marketplace.
Some of our more well-known customers include VisiCorp (who have chosen our
workstation as the basis of the VisiOn development system, as well as using
it to offload their VAX) and Ford Aerospace (who will be using our under-desk
system for use in the space shuttle control center in Houston).

Callan has a reputation for delivering some of the highest-quality hardware
and software available from any 68000 manufacturer, a reputation we intend
to maintain and expand through the work of our software department.

The Callan Engineering Department is a no-smoking environment; all of our
smoking engineers have agreed to do their smoking outdoors or in other
buildings. Westlake Village is sometimes referred to as "Silicon Valley
South"; it offers easily affordable housing, good schooling, Southern
California weather, and smog-free access to L.A. The Malibu beaches are
half an hour away; the Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area is within
fifteen minutes of the plant.

Interested persons should submit their resumes to:

	Director of Software Engineering
	Callan Data Systems
	2645 Townsgate Rd.
	Westlake Village, CA 91361

Resumes may also be mailed to me at the above uucp address and I will forware
them to the Director of Software Engineering, but this is less reliable as
this system is not my primary system and there may be a delay before I receive
the mail.
