Hello-- I recently inherited the "Steamer" project after the departure from my organization of the former researchers. (In case you're not familiar with it, Steamer is a Lisp-based simulation, based on a mathematical model, of a 1200-psi steam propulsion plant like those found on a number of the Navy's ships; it incorporates an icon-based graphics editor that helps build views of the plant that can't be seen otherwise.) The basic software that constitutes Steamer was placed in the public domain several years ago, at the National Technical Information Service (currently part of the Department of Commerce). I have heard that NTIS sent numerous copies of Steamer to requesters. I would like to find out how many people, organizations, etc. have requested the Steamer software from NTIS, how many have made some use of the software, and what (if any) modifications have been made to it by users. If you fit in any of these categories, or know of anyone who does, I'd like to hear from you. Please reply directly to me. If there is enough interest, I will summarize for the net. --Walt Thode, Navy Personnel R&D Center ARPANET: thode@nprdc.arpa MILNET: thode@pacific.nprdc.mil uucp: ihnp4 \ akgua \ decvax >-- !ucsd!nprdc!thode dcdwest / ucbvax /
