This theme session is designed as part of the overall theme:
"Frontiers in Geosciences", for the upcoming internationally-
flavored Annual Meeting of the Geological Society of America
(GSA) and its associated societies. A brief announcement of this
theme session is attached below. Please forward it to your col-

                              November 6-9, 1989

Cervantes Convention Center, St.Louis, Missouri, USA

Theme (#22): APPLICATION OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE,
                        EXPERT SYSTEM OR KNOWLEDGE-BASED SYSTEM
                        METHODS IN GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES

Contributions (oral or poster) are solicited on the application
of Artificial Intelligence (AI), Expert System or Knowledge-Based
System methods in Geological Sciences. Given the interdisci-
plinary nature of this subject, this session will give represen-
tation to applications in all subfields of Geological Sciences.
The emphasis is on contributions that increase awareness of these
new techniques to the broad community of Earth Scientists.

An exhibit of AI related hardware and software is being planned.
