Last week is sent out a product announcement for an IBM PC interface board. I've since gotten one complaint about sending advertising out onto the nets. Now, my feeling is that this group is for anything that is of interest to Desktop Publishers, and that press releases about equiptment, software, or services relating to DTP are of interest to this group. I also don't believe that a press release can be considered an 'ad' -- it is an (admittedly biased) information document (but I believe my readers are smart enough to read around the bias). Since I did get a complain, however, I thought I would ask the readership what they felt -- are press releases, product announcements and other similar materials stuff you want to see on the group, or should I reject them? I will, as a matter of course, reject things that are blatant advertisements or offerings of services for sale (in whatever form) but should I continue to pass through relevant press releases? Let me know what you think, and I'll set up policy based on what the general feeling of the group is. Currently, it is 1 no, and 1 yes. Since the yes is the moderator, it breaks the tie, but I'd like a larger sample in which to make the decision. chuq ---------------------------------------- Submissions to: desktop%plaid@sun.com -OR- sun!plaid!desktop Administrivia to: desktop-request%plaid@sun.com -OR- sun!plaid@desktop-request Paths: {ihnp4,decwrl,hplabs,seismo,ucbvax}!sun Chuq Von Rospach chuq@sun.COM [I don't read flames] There is no statute of limitations on stupidity
