[comp.text.desktop] Laserwriter Paper

The second issue of the PostScript Language Journal talks about two special
papers for laser printers in general that optimise the output by improving
the contrast of the print. They do this by being whiter than regular
paper and by having a special coating that traps the toner better for
blacker blacks. One of the papers can reduce dot gain (toner spread in
halftone dots) a little, too.

I've found that CF Laseredge is the whitest paper you'll ever find. It
registers between .00 and .01 on a densitometer, which makes it whiter
than phototypesetter papers. Hammermill LaserPlus comes in at around .03.

Oh, I almost forgot...the two papers we looked at in the Journal were
Hammermill LaserPlus and CF Laseredge.

Professional printers, who print hard bound books from laserwriter
output tell me the secret is to use a matte - finish paper. On a
shiny, smooth, paper, the reader can see the jaggies. On a matte
paper, the jaggies are hidden by the natural blur of the paper stock!
