Dan, I agree with everything you say about the 7650, except for one point. The adjective "cheap" is relative. The scanner is actually a real price performer when you start looking at its true competitors, i.e. Autokon, ImagiTex, and Eikonix. Their prices are 3.5x on up. Also, the 7650 was designed to be easily interfaced to a wide variety of systems (e.g. its asynchronous data rate, I/O drivers in C, etc.). In addition to the 6085/XPIW version of the scanner, there is a PC XT/AT compatible version complete with a GEM UI. A VME bus card will be available 1Q88, and more output file formats are also being implemented. Okay, I have to admit that I'm slightly biased, I helped develop the thing.
