mam@philabs.philips.com (Mark A. Maxwell) (12/15/87)
I'm sure I am entering this discussion late, however after returning
from SUG '87 in San Jose last week I began wondering who was using
what WYSIWYG package and why...
Here is what I have to date-
We currently have a couple copies of Frame in use w/ a fair degree of success
however, the reason we have so few copies at this point is cost.
Both Interleaf and Frame have costs of ~$2,000- or more per copy.
Key features for all three include
* That they run under SunOs 3.2 or later and can be used within Suntools.
* Can provide Postscript output.
* Except import from existing formats, TeX, Nroff, Sunraster, etc.
* Local and global style modifications.
* Auto-indexing & TOC, dictionary, and equation package.
ArborText seems to offer a couple of advantages over the others-
The first is cost, for multiple copies of 25 or more the price is
about half that of Frame or Interleaf.
Second ArborText's equation editor, which they say is a key feature
of their package, appears to be the best available.
As it stands all three packages to offer quite a lot of performance
but the cost per copy is what seems to be holding their use back.
------------------------------------------------
It would be nice to here comments from people out there using these packages
either by e-mail or a follow-up..
