[comp.text.desktop] Subscription management on Mac?

sandrock@uxc.cso.uiuc.edu (Mark Sandrock) (12/10/87)

I am using a Mac+ and PageMaker 2.0a to publish a small magazine three
times a year. Now that I have survived the first year (:-) and seem to
have the production end of the business down pretty well, I need to get
a handle on the subscription-management/accounting end of things (just
in time for April 15th hopefully!). My question being, is there some
sort of subscription-management software available for the Mac? It doesn't
have to be fancy, just functional. As far as accounting, In-house Account-
ant from Migent sounds very good, and for the right price, but something
that could handle accounting and subscriptions in one package would be
ideal. (This something I'm doing in my spare time obviously!)

Thanks in advance for any information you can provide.

I do my subscription management with FileMaker+. It's currently somewhat
primitive, but I keep an 'expires' field in the data record so I can tell
who's supposed to get what. I also keep a 'last shipped' record that I use
to track one time comps and other special shipments.

It's awkward, but it works. My long term hope is to write a hypercard stack
that'll do this for me and dump data out for various potboiler messages:
mailing labels, renewal letters, pleas for money, whatever. By using HC
for the data management and Word 3.01's mail merge facility, I think I can
put together a good system. I don't know of any commercial system for the
mac yet.
