Why does it seem so difficult to find a nice-looking, user-friendly
interface to TeX? What I would like to have is a TeX equation writer
that works in X Windows and where I can construct my equations by
clicking in integrals, sums, etc with my mouse, whereas at the same time
a text file is written, containing the corresponding TeX source code
(\int, \sum, etc). Such systems exist on Macs and PCs. Why can't I get
it on my 5 MIPS UNIX super workstation?
Conversely, why can't I have a TeX window on the screen continuously
updating itself while I type in the TeX source? I have come across
something like that when I tried the IBM/RT about 2 years ago. Again
this seems impossible on my brand new computer 10 times as powerful as
the RT.
