Dear Colleague, I am conducting preliminary research for a magazine article I am writing on Electronic Publishers. Who are they, what are there skills, what sorts of amalgamations must be made between the often pragmatic world of computers and the often artistic and esthetic world of publishing. If you have the time and inclination to help me out with this just fill out the following and return it to me. Thanks, Troy Welch Electronic Publishing Technician Cariboo College PO Box 3010 Kamloops B.C. What is the difference between the two? 3) So you feel that positions such as these are signalling a move from the specialized personnel to the general, is it an isolated case, or do you feel I'm looking for shapes in the clouds? 4) What kinds of jobs (particular types of projects) do EP's spend most of their time on. 5) Who are these projects done for? 6) Traditional publishing requires input from various areas such as: writing, editing, design, layout, typography, photography, process photography, printing, and communications, all of these areas are obviously relevent to DTP. Do you think that EP's are forced to aquire a deeper knowledge in more than one of these areas than people in the traditional publishing industry are? 7) Do you feel that EP's at best can only dabble by comparison to full-blown traditional print production? 8) In addition to the areas in question 6, EP's must have knowledge in computer, and tele- communications related areas. Once again, are they dabbling? Is dabbling all that is necessary? 9) In the above areas, what are the minimum skills, in order of importance, an EP must posess to be effective. 10) If you were me, and you were writing this article, what questions would you ask that I have forgotten? How would you answer them? Thank you very much for indulging me, and if there is anything I can do for you in the future...well, you have my user name don't hesitate to use it. ---------------------------------------- Submissions to: desktop%plaid@sun.com -OR- sun!plaid!desktop Administrivia to: desktop-request%plaid@sun.com -OR- sun!plaid!desktop-request Paths: {ihnp4,decwrl,hplabs,seismo,ucbvax}!sun
