We're running the WPS software from Interleaf and aren't quite satisfied with it. Anyway, yesterday I had my absolutely worst experience with it. Naturally, it was 20 minutes before an important seminar I was holding and I was just adding the final "touch" to my overhead pictures. I was going to save it, and then print it. Well, WPS wrote all my pages, but when it came to the last one the menu "signal received" or something like that popped up and then there was nothing to do but exit WPS. "Cancel" or "continue" didn't work. I checked that nothing was wrong with the file system or anything and started it again. I tried to load my document, but I had to revert to the backup. Well, foolishly enough I added the last page and tried to save the document again. CRASH! Of course, WPS now corrupted my backup. There I was. Nothing left. What bothers me the most is that WPS tells me it's loading page1, page2 and so on and suddenly barfs on an "unexpected EOF", quitting the load! I mean, it should *at least* provide the pages it *could* load! It's easy to reproduce the error. Just create a chart and include an "escaped" character in a bar label. For example I wanted a label to look like ``Real'' work so I typed: ESC-" Real " work It looks just fine in print, but PLEASE try to save it! :-) :-( We were thinking of upgrading from WPS, but things like this have almost made us change our minds. ---- Now for something completely related: does anyone have anything to say about UPS, supposedly a university version of TPS??? All information is extremely appreciated. /Pell -- "Don't think; let the machine do it for you!" -- E. C.
