Every now and then in Windows 2.0 I get a fatal exit code along with a trip back to dos that is more like jumping out a window than taking the elevator. Despite all the puns can anyone tell me what a fatal exit code is, what causes them and how they can be prevented. Two specific incidents are: 1) I was trying to copy bitmap information between PC Paintbrush and Designer. Memory was quite low, 3 or 4k, I know copying was probably futile with so little free memory but none-the-less: fatal exit code. 2) During converts in Scan Gallery from Scan Gal's file, or tif I think it really is, to PC Paintbrush. It handles converts to Microsoft Paintbrush just fine but it exits on PC Paintbrush. In any event if anyone can shed any light on this fatal exit code creature, it would be much appreciated. You're using Windows 2.0!? Has it been released? Are you running any desktop publishing programs (PageMaker, Ventura) with it? How does it interface with old printer drivers, etc.? Glenn I. This is in response to Troy Welch : I'm not a Windows guru, but I know that whenever Windows detects a fatal error it calls a "FatalExit" routine. The fata exit code describes the particular error encountered. If you have an external terminal connected to COM1 you can get a symbolic stack trace. I have been involved with Scanning Gallery, so I'm really replying to the problem you had while trying to convert. This particular problem has been reported by several people who had the 1.02 version. All of these people that I was able to contact, reported that this problem no longer occured in Scanning Gallery 2.0. If you haven't upgraded to version 2.0 yet, I strongly recommend that you do, it has many additional features missing in 1.02. If you have any more questions or comments about Scanning Gallery please let me know. I am using someone else's account at the moment, but will get my own account soon.
