[I got this from the Letraset folks. I thought the RSG users would be interested in seeing what's coming. It looks like PageMaker's going to have a run for it's money again.... chuq] Letraset sets standards for typographic control with new version of Ready,Set,Go! page layout software Letraset announced last week a new version of Ready,Set,Go! software, its popular page layout program. The program, set for release the third quarter of 1988, adds many powerful new features yet still maintains the simple user interface which has earned it a reputation as the easiest page layout \software on the Macintosh to learn and to use. Notable among the powerful new features are fractional point sizes down to the one hundredth of a point, user controllable kerning, tracking, and letterspacing precise to the one thousandth of an em space, and full color support with user definable color for text and graphic elements. "We've responded to hundreds of requests from users who love Ready,Set,Go! software and needed precise typographic control for their document creation. Now they can have it all," said Russ McCann, manager of marketing for Letraset's Graphic Design Software group. "This level of control is what professional designers and communicators have come to expect from Letraset. This is our traditional marketplace, and this new version meets its requirements," McCann stated. "The typographic and image control of this upgrade clearly make Ready,Set,Go! superior to other page layout programs in precision of design," said Brian Day of the Fisher & Day design firm of San Francisco. "It's definitely the most sophisticated in terms of typographic control." "While RSG owners have always enjoyed ease-of-use, it appears that they now have the edge in typographic refinements as well," affirmed Joel Davis, president of Idea Bank, a New England based marketing consulting firm specializing in the graphic arts. "With kerning and tracking now specified in one thousandth of an em, coupled with sophisticated H and J, style sheets and search and replace capability, RSG 4.5 is both response and challenge to makers of dedicated systems and DTP software vendors alike," Mr. Davis concluded. A partial list of features which are available with the 4.5 version includes: Fractional font sizes, line spacing and baseline shifts to the .01 of a point provide quality typographic layout. Fractional kerning, tracking, and letterspacing to .001 of an em space allow typographic precision. Thumbnail views of the document permit quick review and individual page access, as well as page level editing and printing. Move command allows the user to select a number of objects and move them a precise distance. User adjustable Alignment Guides, in addition to the Design Grids, support design precision, control, and flexibility. Color registration marks for spot color separations. Editing of grayscale images within the program which gives you: Contrast and Brightness control Gamma curve correction capability Creation of negatives Rotation vertically and horizontally Posterization Setting halftone Additional line or rule styles provide additional graphic capabilities. Case conversion for selected text which includes: % Sentence caps % All caps % All lowercase % Word caps Style specification sheet for setting up all possible type characteristics for reuse in one dialog box aids quick production of long documents and control of typographic elements for consistency and style. Compatibility with Letraset's ImageStudio image enhancement software, and LetraStudio display type customization software. More command keystrokes speed document creation. User retained defaults allow the user to establish their personal publishing environment. All new owners who purchased Ready,Set,Go! 4.0 after July 5 will be given the upgrade free of charge. Other Ready,Set,Go! 4.0 owners will be charged only $49.95, including freight and handling, for the upgrade. Ready,Set,Go! 1.0, 2.0, and 3.0 owners can receive an upgrade for $85.00 inclusive.
