[comp.text.desktop] TeX under Xenix ????

hanifl@ausonics.OZ (Hanif LADHA) (08/23/88)

You will not find many TeX distributions for the '286, due to data segment
restrictions of the micro. That is you cann't have arrays (and TeX uses
arrays!!) larger than 64K bytes (one segment), unless you use the HUGE
memory model, which the XENIX c compiler doesn't support.

There is a crowd who have translated TeX into C via a PASCAL to C converter,
and I've been informed that they are tackling the array problem. You may
like to get in touch with them:

This is a pretty good package, sells for about $US200. Included is the
original WEB sources, Beebe's driver package, and a good installation
manual. By the way the product is called TurboTeX. Good Luck.
