[comp.text.desktop] MacPub/Springboard

KENHULME@miriam.utah.edu (Ken Hulme, Zen Druid) (12/16/88)

It is my understanding, from a conversation with Russ McCann (former
Pres. of Boston Software, now V.P. for Marketing at LetraSet) that
Boston Software - MacPublisher - is no longer extant as a company.
Even if you were going to buy MacPubIII from someone, there would be
no tech support.

I Beta tested MacPub I, II, and III as well as the ill fated LetraPage,
and found especially Pub III to be very buggy, slow and cumbersome, even
in the release version. Springboard is not too shabby as a low end
DTP product; its major disadvantage is that screen re-draw times are
atrociously slow - as much as 15 seconds after scrolling to the bottom
of a page! AT least on our campus (Univ. of Utah) RSG4 is cheaper than
Springboard $185 vs. $200, and WELL worth the paying double for if
we had to.

BTW, in talking to Russ today (15 Dec) he said that RSG4.5 is FINALLY
shipping this week!

Anybody got any really super examples of DTP projects? I'm writing
what the publisher and I believe is the first college textbook on
DTP, and could use some samples not my own. Full credit for layout,
design, etc. will be given.
