[comp.text.desktop] desktop publishing is gone

chuq@sun.uucp (01/07/89)

This will be the final message from the moderated end of the Desktop
Publishing mailing list. The control messages to remove the moderation of
comp.text.desktop have been sent out, and this have created a situation
that will make it impossible for me to continue moderating, even if I
wanted to.

The problem is this: since some sites have turned off the moderation flag
and others haven't, when the unmoderated message hits one of the latter
sites, it immediately packages it up and mails it to me. A couple of
messages have been posted since the control message went out -- and I've
received over 500 copies in the last two days of each.

Obviously, there's no practical way for me to parse out a message that I
*should* repost from a stream of duplicates that large. So I've had to set
things up here so that all messages going to the desktop list go to
/dev/null until the control message finishes propogating. This is,
then, the end of things on the ARPA side, and the end of my involvement
in the group except as a participant.

My thanks to everyone involved in the list for helping me make it a
success. You people made the time and work I put into it more than
worth it.

Until we meet again....

chuq

Is there an unmoderated desktop publishing group?

Thanks,
