[comp.text.desktop] comp.text, comp.text.desktop: Which is Which?

dougcc@csv.viccol.edu.au (Douglas Miller) (06/06/89)

I've been enjoying reading the debate in comp.text.desktop on typographic
design (and who is qualified to do it). I've also noticed many items
relevant to TeX, LaTeX, troff etc.

Which makes me wonder, what is the subject area(s) that comp.text.desktop
is supposed to cover? Is it just discussion of traditional DTP, i.e.,
hands-on page layout software such as Ventura and PageMaker. Or is there
a wider brief to discuss all aspects of electronic publishing? If it is
the former, then shouldn't the discussions on TeX, troff, document design,
etc. be in comp.text? If it is the latter, then surely comp.text and
comp.text.desktop have duplicate function, and should be merged?
