Hello NetLanders:-)

I have been elected to write the newsletter for a group that I
belong to. I would like to use a laser printer. I have an AT&T 3B2/300
SYS V.2.0. I have purchased the DOCUMENTER'S WORKBENCH from AT&T. This
contains nroff and troff. I am fair at nroff. I have never used troff.

I would like to purchase a laser printer. However, this purchase
must come out of my pocket. Therefore, I would like to stay between one
and two thousand dollars. The closer to one thousand the better:-) I do
not want just a neeto line printer. In other words, I would like to be able
to change font sizes, make lines, etc... I know, a few thousand is not much.
Do you have any suggestions on what laser printer I should purchase?

I heard that troff does not work will with most over the counter
laser printers. I heard that there are public domain software packages that
fix this problem. Is this true? If so, what is the software?

The only Desk Top Publishing system that I have ever worked with was
PageMaker, Mac+, LaserWrite II. It was great. Oh well, to have money:-)

Any suggestion would be deeply appreciated!!!

Thank you,
James D. Corder

ps	Does anyone want to trade any desktop publishing equipment for
a PDP-8e or PDP-11/34. Well, it is worth asking:-)

Printers that run JetRoff, at least according to our customers:

HP LaserJet Series II	100% Compatible
HP LaserJet+ Avoid point sizes > 32, large bitmaps
Panasonic KX-P4450	Needs 1.03 or later ROMs (call 201-392-4211)
Acer LP-76 Needs 2.6 (A7) or later ROMs
Oki Laserline 6
Olivetti PG208 Mk 2

The LaserJet Series II runs about $1550 these days, some of
the others are in the $1200-$1300 range.

To complete your setup, you can use the original shareware version 1.1
of JetRoff (its not P.D., though), or you can register to get
version 2.6 for $50 (home use) or $100 (business use).
