[comp.text.desktop] Ventura Publisher

jwi@lzfme.att.com (Jim Winer @ AT&T, Middletown, NJ) (03/28/89)

I have just received VP2.0. I would appreciate any information on
bugs. Here is some information that I have on both VP1.1 and VP2.0:

VP 1.1:	(with patch) will refuse to reload a chapter if either of
	the following conditions is true:

	1)	The chapter file exceeds 64K
	2)	Any file appears in the file list (frame mode)
		more than once.

VP 2.0	1)	Working with rotated type is very strange. For
controllable results, it should be limited to
one paragraph per frame. Use line breaks to get
multiple lines rather than multiple paragraphs.
(There may be some combination of rotations and
allignments that works better, but I haven't
		found it.)
	2)	If either a frame or a text box is too small to
contain the text entered, an error box appears
notifying you of this fact. ...and appears, and
appears,... In some cases, the frame may disappear
so you can't delete it but you will get the error
dialog box forever after on every frame operation.
(I would appreciate any information on this.)
	3)	The 2 bugs from 1.1 may also apply -- I didn't
		test them.

I would appreciate any additional information on bugs.

If this was posted to the net before I joined several months ago,
please accept my appologies.

I will summarize any replies.

Thanks in advance.

I believe in absolute freedom of the press.
I believe that freedom of the press is the only protection we have
from the abuses of power of the church,
from the abuses of power of the state,
from the abuses of power of the corporate body, and
from the abuses of power of the press itself.
Those persons who advocate censorship offend my religion.

I'm considering purchasing Xerox Ventura Publisher, but it doesn't
directly support my H.P. Deskjet (inkjet) printer. Xerox tells me
that I'll have to spend $199 on "Publisher Powerpack", which would
also give me lots of things I don't want or need (at least not
right away).

Does anyone know of a (legal) workaround for this? Any info at
all would be appreciated....incluing info on other serious desktop
publishing packages which support the Deskjet.

Thanks.

In article <32014@iuvax.cs.indiana.edu> hughes@silver.bacs.indiana.edu
(larry hughes) asks about inexpensive alternative drivers for Xerox Ventura
Publisher and H.P. DeskJet printers.

You can purchase HP Deskjet drivers for Ventura Publisher from Digital
Research for *a lot* less than $199. Contact Digital Research for more
information.
