[comp.text.desktop] Interleaf with Sigma Laserview

anderson@vms.macc.wisc.edu (Jess Anderson) (01/04/90)

Any Interleaf Publisher users (PC 386-type) out there?
I have a problem. We would like to support this product,
which is in use on our campus. We ourselves use Ventura
Publisher and PageMaker (on PCs) and PageMaker on Macs.
We also have Interleaf running on a PC-RT, but that is
not a production setup.

The problem is that IBM (which distributes the product)
provides drivers for VGA, EGA, and three other monitors,
none of them including the monitor we use (Sigma Designs
LaserView Plus, 19" monochrome, 1660x1220 approx) for our
other products. We are reluctant to install a second (VGA)
monitor and video card just for this product (money doesn't
grow on trees, esp. here).

I called Interleaf in Cambridge, and they don't supply a
driver. I haven't reached Sigma yet, but Interleaf is
probably not a big enough market for them to have geared
up for it (they do provide drivers for Ventura, Windows,
AutoCad, and other hi-res software).

Has anyone else solved this little problem? At the moment,
our provisional decision is we won't be able to provide
consulting support to our campus on this software.

Possibly relevant is that the Sigma monitor has built-in
Hercules emulation. If there were a software VGS emulation
for this monitor, we might be in business (if slow
business). Any help will be appreciated, even the "we
looked everywhere and found nothing" kind of help.
