Our group is expanding and we have a number of positions open at a variety of levels. Candidates should have experience using UNIX* and C, but you don't need to be a wizard. In addition to software developers (from apprentice level on up to "demigod"), we have or will make openings for technical writers, supervisors, applications evaluators, instructors, even marketeers. The work of this group is to support and enhance Digital's ULTRIX family of software products. If you are interested in working on any of the following areas, I think you'll find challenging opportunities in our group. (If you see that I've left something out of the list, then we really have an opportunity for you!) o UNIX system internals: device drivers, scheduling, memory management, security, error reporting and recovery o network communications devices and protocols: TCP/IP, Ethernet, X.25, DECNET, ... o file systems (particularly performance, reliability and network servers) o document preparation tools: text editors, nroff/troff, Scribe, TeX, laser printers and typesetters (also "Writers Workbench"-like tools) o performance analysis and tuning o specialized operating systems: distributed, database support, high-reliability o software engineering tools: source code control, configuration control, application generators o compilers (particularly aspects like code generation, optimization, error recovery and validation) o language-oriented editors and debugging aids o network applications: mail, news, distributed databases o professional workstations, including color graphics, human interfaces and "windowing" o standardization and internationalization o portable applications software and market analysis Despite the fact that DEC is a large company, in our group there are significant opportunities for growth. Because we are a large company, there are a lot of resources available. In some cases the jobs will involve liason work with other engineering or support organizations within DEC, in others there will be contact with customers or external software developers. We are located in southern New Hampshire, about 50 minutes north from Boston, but some openings may be at locations in Massachusetts, Colorado, or elsewhere. Salary and benefits are competitive (They really are! We don't try to pay you with stock options; initial paid vacation time is 2 weeks, but we work something out for people who want more time.) If you are interested, please send your resume (or something like it describing your experience) to decvax!jmcg or via U.S. Snail: Jim McGinness Digital Equipment Corp.
