A friend of mine flagged an article and ad in the May 1991 Computer Shopper (pp 522-523, and 750) for a postscript laser printer for under $1000. For $999, they send you a full size controller card for your PC (they say it is only PC compatible, no Macs), a refurbished Canon LBP-CX with 3 meg of memory (for $200 extra, you can get a new one), cable, software, and manual. Supposedly, kits are available for a variety of other laser printers. Has anyone used one of these? The Computer Shopper article gave it rave reviews. I was just wondering if anyone else has tried it and how they feel about it? Is it a workable solution to inexpensive postscript printing? A couple of questions for anyone that's used it, how much memory do the software's TSRs take up? Can the printer be used in a non-postscript mode? The ad lists two types of toner cartridges, text and graphics. Does it take two to print? If only one, what's the difference (besides price difference)? How much does a toner cartridge for this machine cost at retail outlets? Thanks for any info. Pete ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Peter P.
