[comp.mail.elm] The Elm Mail System v2.0 - within 60 days?

taylor@hplabs.HP.COM (Dave Taylor) (01/10/88)

I'm in the middle of working on a new HP-Internal (keep reading, though)
release of Elm -- currently numbered 2.0 -- and would be interested in
hearing about any patches people have applied to the software since the
1.5/1.7 release was shipped (especially for the 1.7 beta release).

The main changes that I have made to the code are that it more
consistently distinguishes between screen and line mode, but now
offers all the functionality of the screen mode stuff when in, for
example, batch mailing mode (e.g. "elm taylor@hplabs" now lets you
add Expired: headers etc etc). Lots of other stuff has been cleaned
up and fixed, but, alas, I don't recall what 1.5b/1.7 had in it, so
I can't post a fuller summary of differences.

Oh! I have completely rewritten all the documentation too.

The work that I did, by the way, was to make Elm compatible with the
X.400 European electronic mail protocol...

The caveat above is that I imagine that if I can successfully rip
out all the X.400-related modifications, I should be able to distributed
this new version publicly. Hence my strong interest in making it as
complete, portable and up-to-date as possible.

I look forward to hearing from various Elm enthusiasts out there and
hopefully can have something to release to comp.sources.unix (I'll
also chat with Mr. Salz about release timings too) by the end of next
month...
