Well, I used less as my pager under elm 1.5. Since we've upgraded to
2.2, I've begun using the builtin pager. It depends upon what you mean
by powerful . . .

The primary reason I switched is the ability to enter elm commands at the
pager prompt. I can look at the first page of a message, hit d to delete it,
and the next message just pops up. Similar to what you can do at the index
prompt, only now I'm looking at the entire first page instead of just the
subject.

Granted this wouldn't be such a wonderful advantage at 1200 baud, but at
9.6 I like it.

Most of the other elm commands are also available at the pager prompt (save,
print, reply, bounce, etc). Works quite nicely.

It would be very nice to be able to scroll backwords, although except for
HUGE messages just hitting 'h' will get you back to the top. If it does get
put in, then someone please think carefully about what keys to use (I
still occasionally use the less command 'u' to try to scroll up in rn, but end
up unsubscribing to the current newsgroup - argh!).

There might be some tight constraints here, as the commands to move backwards
in the enhanced builtin pager can be none of the "index screen commands"
that are available while in the builtin pager. :-(

Well, no one said it would be easy :-). How about ^F and ^B? Works for
vi and less.

Or: how about recognizing the - and + keys as paging backwards/forwards
through the message? This would be consistent with - and + paging through
the index (which I can't see wanting to do from the pager), and I can't think
of any other programs this would conflict with.
