The qualified candidate should have approximately the following qualifications: Very desirable: - Graduate Degree in Psychology (especially Cognitive Psychology) or Human Factors, or equivalent experience. - Experience using computer systems, especially word processing and other office automation systems. - Good writing ability. Experience using a computer for document preparation. - Work experience in some of these areas: + designing user interfaces + conducting studies to measure human performance and perceptions related to office equipment. Preferable: - A Ph. D., or a Masters degree plus equivalent work experience. - Office Automation product development experience. - Knowledge of computer communications disciplines. The Ergonomics department of Exxon Office Systems Company is located in Princeton, New Jersey in the Forrestal Center. Current activities include the design of several office automation systems, and Ergo- nometric studies related office automation. At this time, the depart- ment's primary emphasis is on those aspects of the user interface that can be controlled by software; there is a secondary emphasis on good hardware design. The job includes many opportunities to work with teams of people to plan system features that will be attractive to users.
