Computer Systems Analyst/Manager for Hopkins Ultraviolet Telescope

An immediate opening exists in the Dept. of Physics & Astronomy on the
Homewood Campus of the Johns Hopkins University for an imaginative & energetic
computer scientist to assume the responsibility of planning, development,
operation & maintenance of all computer systems support for the HOPKINS 
ULTRAVIOLET TELESCOPE PROJECT.  The telescope will be launched aboard the space shuttle on the first of three missions starting in March, 1986.

Responsibilities will include the development of software for the real-time
monitoring & control of the telescope during flight, using a PDP 11/24
SYSTEM, as well as the development & operation of a post-flight data 
analysis facility, from the definition of hardware & software requirements
to the reduction of flight data.

Five to seven yrs. exper. is required in development of software systems for
both real-time control of instruments & for data analysis.  Applicants should be
familiar with several operating systems including UNIX and the programming
languages such as FORTRAN, C and FORTH.  An advanced degree in physics,
electrical engineering, astronomy, or computer science is required.
