[comp.mail.elm] Sendmail problem: messages getting stuck in queue

Hi,

We've been experiencing a problem with the latest version
of sendmail (V5.61 with some bug fixes from comp.bugs.bsd).
We have some messages that get stuck in the queue (ie the
message stays in the queue with a lock file, but no sendmail 
processing it) apparently after they have been delivered.
This happens to local messages as well as those for remote sites.
In most if not all cases the message was sent using the elm
mail program, but I have been unable to reproduce the probem.

Has anyone else been experiencing this problem and/or have a fix
for it? Any help would be appreciated.
