[comp.mail.elm] Generating the reply-to field.

jstewart@ncs.dnd.ca (John Stewart) (01/04/90)

I'd like to be able to configure most of my outgoing mail to generate
a Reply-To field that contains an address that is different from my From
address.

I noticed that the elm code can handle a reply to field on incoming
mail, but it doesn't seem to handle it on the outgoing.

Yes, I have RTFM, but I must have missed it. And, no, I am not an
ELM expert!

We are running elm 2.2, patch level 0, if it makes any difference.

Thanks;

John Stewart.

John, assuming things haven't moved too much, you should be able to
create a file in your "$HOME/.elm" directory called "elmheaders" which
can contain whatever fields you'd like to have included in your outbound
mail. For example, mine is:

  % cat ~/.elm/elmheaders
  Reply-To: Dave Taylor <taylor@limbo.intuitive.com>
Organization: Intuitive Systems, Mountain View, California +1 (415) 966-1151

Neat, eh? If you'd like to do it while within the program, you should
look at the O)ptions screen and see if it's available there...

		Good luck to you!

There are two ways to get a Reply-to header in your outgoing message:
	1. Use the header editing screen, enterable by hitting "h" on
	the send menu.

	2. Use an .elm/elmheaders file, which is tagged onto the headers
generated "inside" elm when you send a message.

I believe the header editing screen and the elmheaders file are mentioned
in the Reference Guide, but may not speicifically mention their relevance
to this particular header.
