The Distribution: facility has existed for ages and *has* been pointed out on the net. And still hardly anyone actually uses it. The problem is, it's difficult to find out what is acceptable as reply to the prompt, and there is no encouragement to actually restrict the distribution of a posting (quite the contrary in fact, since the default is always the newsgroup you are posting to). For these reasons (I imagine), rather than use postings to net.politics with a distribution of "eunet", the European net has a eunet.politics. This *does* seem to work. I think that the main problem with using the Distribution: facility is just that you have to explicitly do it. And you have to know what it does. If the distribution is in the group name it is easy to see just where the message will end up going. Robert Virding @ L M Ericsson, Stockholm

One way to solve the problem of inundating the world with messages which should have a limited distribution, is to make local distribution only the default. Then, if you "don't know what you are doing" it's in your own interest to do some learning, rather than the world having to pay the phone bills . Fair enough ?? Werner
