There seems to be some confusion for folks that are just starting to use elm as to how they can customize certain operating parameters such as signature file specification and print command pipelines, etc. These settings are in the file ~/.elm/elmrc. When you begin elm for the first time, elm should create the directory .elm for you. However, it will not create the elmrc file until you set your elm o)ptions for the first time. I understand that in beginner's mode, the command 'o' (for options) does not appear on the menu. Fear not, it is there. Select 'o' at the main menu to get a new menu where you can specify a great number of very useful parameters. Save these (even if you have made no changes) by pressing the '>' key. This creates the 'elmrc' file in '.elm'. After this you can edit the elmrc file to reflect further customizations desired. It's not brain surgery... However, getting elm to create that bloody elmrc file can be a bit confusing. Donald K.
