[comp.mail.elm] Could somebody out there please tell me what ELM is?!?

I'm looking for userfriendly mail-system, preferably running under XWindows.
Somebody told me that ELM might be an idea - but what "is" it?
Would somebody please E-mail me some information (I'm special interrested
in userinterface, compability with other mail-systems and so on)
