                 BELL COMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH INC.
              Local Access Network Interface Research

My group in the Applied Research Area is studying interfaces to
wideband local switching systems. The following positions are
available to qualified individuals:

 - Member of Technical Staff

Qualifications - I would be interested in talking further with
someone who has a PhD in CSc (preferred) or EE and has done
previous research in computer communication networks and is
interested in applying that knowledge to networks based on
optical fiber; specifically, someone who has researched
network topologies (i.e., point-to-point, ring, star, bus,
etc.) and protocols, and/or their implementation. If you've
constructed a network from the ground up, then so much the
better. It is necessary that you be highly skilled in
     communicating your ideas to others.

Responsibilities - The job is to propose and study access
     topologies and protocols for wideband local switching systems;
primarily through the use of modeling and theoretical
analysis. This work will then be used to direct the
construction of prototype implementations that rely on
     distributed software and VLSI techniques.

- Member of Technical Staff

Qualifications - I'd like to hire someone who has a PhD in EE
(preferred) or CSc and has a research interest in digital
system design. I'm interested in someone who has done
substantial work in techniques for implementing very high-
speed digital systems - for example, systolic arrays of VLSI
devices. Familiarity with both synchronous and asynchronous
systems as well as available technologies is essential. If
     you've experience in high-speed serial communication, that's
an advantage. It is necessary that you be highly skilled in
     communicating your ideas to others.

Responsibilities - The job is to propose and study digital
machines for very high-speed serial communications using a
combination approach of modeling and prototype implementation.
This work will result in both prototype systems and devices
required for an interface to a wideband local switching
     system.

- Senior Staff Technologist

Qualifications - If you have at least an Associate Degree in
Electronics or Electronics Technology and have had at least 5
years experience in an R&D environment, then we should talk
further. Knowledge of microprocessors, hardware and firmware,
test and measurement equipment, and electronic components and
devices is required; knowledge of fiber optic components would
be an additional benefit. You should be able to perform
circuit board layout as well as front panel and backplane
     design - including power distribution.

Responsibilities - The primary job is to support our hardware
prototyping effort by building and testing circuits, designing
and constructing system hardware such as backplanes and front
panels, and maintaining the group's laboratory. Additional
responsibilities are possible based on experience.

If your qualified and interested in one of the above positions,
drop me a line or give me a call and we'll talk further. We're
extremely competitive in terms of salaries and benefits and, of
course, we're an equal opportunity employer.
