[comp.mail.elm] Help with elmrc

rory@triton.unm.edu (Rory K. McManus) (10/20/90)

Howdy!

I was just looking for some help with creating an elmrc.
I can't find any local documentation on it. Could someone be so
kind as to give me a few pointers on how to make it up? My main
interest at the moment is to get to automatically append my outgoing
mail with my .signature file, if this is possible. Anyhow, thanks
in advance. Respond by email if possible (I'll get to it quicker).

1) get into Elm

2) type "o" to get into the options menu

3) change an option any one will do...the user level is rather safe.

4) type ">" to save the change

5) type "i" to get back to the index

6) type "q" toget out of elm

7) cd to your .elm directory

8) edit the elmrc file that has been created for you to your liking
   ....most entries are self explanitory.

One thing you really ought to do is everywhere it has a /u10/rory,
replace it with a $HOME, that way if (when) your account is moved,
it will still work, someday I'll change the Elm code so this is done
correctly to begin with. Raw *roff documents are found in
/p2/p2/pd/elm2.3/dist/doc, someday in my spare time I'll convert them
to postscript so they can be delt with easier. The man pages are also
on line.

Any questions can be answered by the Help Desk at CIRT ph. 277-4848.
Also, IRC regularly schedules Elm configuration and tutorial
classes, you can call them to register for one of the classes
at 277-8144.
