[comp.mail.elm] filter-rules and exec

swood@vela.acs.oakland.edu ( EVENSONG) (11/12/90)

I have been trying to use the filter-rules in elm to send my mail back out
to a user group. I was told that I could not simply do a

if (suject contains 'stug') then forward stuga

as the filters would be executed by root, and the mailer would not recognize
the alias stuga. So I started saving to a file, and running a shell program
to remail it. I would like to however use the exec command in the filters to
remail the messages as they arrive, as that would allow for a much more
efficient mailing list. The docs say that the exec will execute a program
using the message as input, but as of yet, I have been unable to figure out
how the message has to be handled to be redirected to mail. I have already
got the first portion of a shell script written to set all the environment
variable for root so that my aliases will be used, but I need to know
what the heart of the program must do to mail the message (input) out to
the alias
