	I figgured out the problem myself.

	The ELM that I (we) am using was ported from our old system file-by-
file.  It was configured and compiled by someone else and may have been an
old version (2.2 I think).

	I tried configuring and compiling the elm source package that I already
had (via ftp from wuarchive...) and it worked fantastically.

	I never did understand what was wrong with the other version.  Perhaps
the configuration....

	I'm very sorry to have taken up your time (if I DID.  I haven't recieved
any replies) with my stupid question.
