I got several requests to report the results of the informal survey.
The responses have dropped off, so here it is, but first some comments:
1. I tried to read all responses to see if people made comments, but I may
have missed some, as I used some software to process the responses to make
my editing easier.
2. Someone remarked that by putting the repsonse in c.m.elm it was biased.
The bias, I guess, would be to only those Elm sites that get netnews. Its hard
to send messages to others, as I don't know how they get Elm, nor if they
got it. If he means only Elm interested sites will respond, well, the
survey only asked about Elm, not about any other mailer.
3. Since a lot gave me a range of users, I made the results list low and high.
4. This was a voluntary poll of Elm sites, I guess we got responses from
about 10% (usual response characteristic for surveys) so actual is anywhere
between these figures and about 10x these figures.
5. Order of the file is order received, I did not sort it in any way.
The three questions were:
1. How many systems, for which you are responsible have you installed Elm?
2. How many users use Elm on all of those systems?
3. How long has Elm been installed in years?
