[comp.mail.elm] Alias problems

Sorry to distact from the "who's on first?" discussion(;-}), but I
have a mundane problem.
elm 1.7 was recently installed on this machine, from the same
sources that netsys used. Yet when I attempt to "newalias",
it tells me it 'processed 1 aliases' and seems to ignore all
the rest.
What am I doing wrong?
Here is my .alias_text file:
 	rhg : Rich : rhg@ncoast
 	blood : Count : smith@ncoast
 	fast_ed : Eddie : mopar@ncoast
 	themguys : : rhg, blood, fast_ed
 	shellEy : shell_E_y : slr@ho95c

What's your patch level? I'll bet it's PL10. This problem was fixed in
PL11.

My patch level is 10. I have found out (from Syd) that patch 11
fixes the alias problem and I have ftp'd it. However, I need a
program called patch. There does seem to be some kind of public
patch on my machine, but when I tried to use it, it either did
nothing, or was working very slowly. Syd says that it should work
very quickly so I assume that the patch that is here is the wrong
one.

Now, I admit that I deleted a lot of stuff that came with Elm.
However, I don't think I deleted any programs. If everyone is
absolutely sure that a patch program comes with Elm, then I guess
I did. I will try re-ftp-ing it tonight and see if it's there.

In the meantime, I have the patch and can't do anything with it.
(Ack!)

Anyway, thanks to all you have replied to me. I appreciate the
speedy service!

Gail

You did run newalias after you edited the file?
