Here's a quick suggestion .. have Elm append a newline to the last
line of a mail message if it doesn't have it. It might just be
applicable to sendmail-based configurations (not mmdf, smail,
whatever).
We just spent a few minutes trying to figure out why one of our
users would send mail but it'd never get to the receiving party, nor
would it bounce. Quite the mystery.
Turns out his .signature didn't have a newline at the end of the
last line; as a result, the '.' sent by sendmail to signify that the
data was finished was appended to the signature, and the connection
just sat there, eventually timing out. (Explains the "net hang from
ashley" messages I've seen in my syslog, too.)
