Philips Laboratories, a division of North American Philips, has two job openings in the Computing Resources Group for UNIX systems programmers. Both positions involve software support on our VAX/UNIX systems. Our facility consists of a VAX 11/780 running 4.2BSD, connected via ethernet to an IRIS and several SUN workstations. An 11/750 due to be installed this month will also be on the ethernet. In addition, we are networking with remote IBM mainframes, and plan to be using X.25 to communicate with UNIX sites in Europe before the end of the year. Our site, (philabs) is one of the eastern backbones of USENET and knowledge of uucp and news is also a plus. One position is for a Member of Technical Staff, and requires a M.S. in Computer Science, Mathematics, E.E., or equivalent. Candidates for this position will be expected to give a lab seminar on some aspect of UNIX. The second position is for Research Associate, and a B.S. or equivalent is required. These positions are for software support for our VAX machines. Knowledge of UNIX internals is required, previous experience with data communications or IBM VM systems is a plus. The ideal candidate will also be able to deal courteously with users and be able to work on short and long-term projects concurrently, if not simultaneously.
