The University of Maryland was recently awarded by the National Science Foundation 4.2 million dollars over 5 years to develop the hardware and software for a parallel processing laboratory. Year 1 is up, and we have bought several more Vaxes, a Pyramid, 13 Sun Workstations, and are taking delivery on over 30 Xerox Dandelion workstations under the Xerox University Grants Program. Our 256 processor ZMOB project is in full swing. (What O.S. will it run? Mobix, of course!) We are on arpanet, milnet, csnet, usenet, and bitnet. Last year we were looking for hardware and software specialists and a laboratory director. Our search was partially successfully, and we are now only looking for software specialists. Ability to communicate (and commune) with heavy-duty unix hackers necessary. Salaries are negotiable and competitive. Working conditions are informal academic research (nice!). If you like to build new things in Unix, play with fancy hardware, and work with a lot of smart people, this is for you.
