UNIVERSITY OF VERMONT Applications are invited for several tenure track positions in Computer Science at the assistant or associate professor level. A Ph.D. in computer science or a closely related discipline and an active research interest in some area of mainstream computer science is required. Current faculty research interests include architecture, networking, data- base theory, artificial intelligence, robotics, program behavior, memory systems, performance evaluation, and real-time systems. Teaching loads for new faculty are kept low to allow ample time to initiate research programs. The Division of Engineering, Mathematics, and Business Adminis- tration, in which the department is located, has a new com- puting facility for support of research and advanced course- work. Equipment includes a VAX-11/780 and a VAX-11/750, each running 4.2 BSD UNIX, and a PDP-11/55 and a PDP-11/23, each running 2.9 BSD UNIX, all interconnected via a local area network. Document preparation is supported with a high-quality laser printer. The facility is a subscriber to USENET and a member of CSNET. In addition, the University Academic Computing Center has a DEC 2060 and a Harris 800 available for faculty use. IBM, DEC, GE and others have substantial operations nearby, providing opportunities for consulting. These positions are presently available, and applications will be accepted until the positions are filled.
