The State Univ. of NY at Stony Brook is presently conducting a search for a Chairperson of its Department of Computer Science. In the last three years the administration has committed substantial funds for upgrading salaries and expanding the research and educational laboratories within the Department. At present there is 22,000 sq. ft. of laboratories, office space for 30 faculty and staff members and l00 graduate students. The Department is presently composed of sixteen faculty members, carrying on an educational program leading to baccalaureate, master and doctoral degrees. The undergraduate program has 400 majors, the graduate program has 90 full-time students distributed about equally between the master and doctoral programs. Research expenditures have steadily increased over the years with the recent award of the NSF Coordinated Experimental Research grant, and are now over 1 millions dollars/year. Departmental equipment presently includes a Pyramid, VAX 11/780, 7 VAX 11/750's, and various workstations, and graphics stations, all linked by Ethernet. The Department is a member of the CSNET.
