        EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AT BELL COMMUNICATIONS RESEARCH,
                 MORRISTOWN, NJ, IN APPLIED RESEARCH AREA



       Created by the AT&T divestiture, Bell Communications
       Research has the mission of providing research and
       technology support for the divested regional Bell companies,
       and of carrying forward the tradition of technical
       excellence and innovation established by the pre-divestiture
       Bell Laboratories.  Within Bell Communications Research, the
       Applied Research Area conducts both basic research in
       science and technology and applied research in
       communications systems, networks, and services.  Bell
       Communications Research is an affirmative action employer

       Within the Applied Research Area, the Network Services
       Research Division is responsible for defining, evaluating,
       and prototyping new communications service concepts and
       associated technologies and network architectures.  The work
       is multidisciplinary and team-oriented; research topics span
       a broad range, including speech processing, user interface
       design, network architecture, and high throughput, high
       availability network control databases.  Activities are
       motivated by the ultimate objective of expanding the
       capabilities of the public communications network to benefit
       both residential and business end-users.

       Exchange Network Architect:

       Computer Science or Electrical Engineering specialist, Ph.D.
       preferred, for advanced analytical and experimental work on
       distributed network control architectures and routing
       strategies for support of new user-programmed services.

       Data Base Applications Specialist:

       Ph.D. Computer Science specialist, for advanced analytical
       and experimental work on distributed and dynamically
       reconfigured data bases for real-time support of new
       communication services.  Experience with distributed and

       Message Network Architect:

       Computer Science or Electrical Engineering specialist, Ph.D.

       internetwork protocols and address management desirable.

       Network Protocol Specialist:

       Computer Science specialist, Ph.D. or M.S., with background

       experimental work in protocol reference models and network
       access protocols for the user-defined exchange network.

       User Interface Software Specialist:

       Ph.D. Computer Science specialist with expertise in
       AI/expert systems and other user interface software, for

       New Services Specialist:

       Candidates may have virtually any degree level or
       experience, so long as they have demonstrated the ability to
       define and reduce to practice creative new applications of
       communications technologies to meet the needs of end users.
       Experience with the application of speech technologies will
       be helpful.  This person will be responsible for conceptual
       definition of new communications services and for leadership
       in the effort to implement them in a system prototype.
