[net.jobs] Job wanted in Israel

skiena@uiucdcsb.UUCP (01/24/85)

Hi!

I am a graduate student in Computer Science at the University of
Illinois looking to spend some time working in Israel. I will graduate
with an MS in May. I have experience in both teaching and industry,
working at MIT Lincoln Labs, Bell Labs, and Western Electric ERC.
I have programming experience in Pascal, C, Fortran, and Lisp as well
as background in Microprocessors and VLSI.

Any pointers to possible positions or firms would be greatly
appreciated. My resume is available on request. Please respond
by real or CSNET mail. Although I am interested in learning Hebrew,
I would be most useful in a situation where English is spoken.
Thank you.

The following is taken from the 1/25/85 issue of San Diego's
Heritage newspaper in the article
"Haifa: City on Microchip Mountain" by Carl Alpert:

A score of companies employ 5000 people and this past year did a
combined export business of close to half a billion dollars.
Some of the smaller companies are still located on the grounds of
the Technion; others are in Haifa's Advanced Technology Center.

--Elscint makes medical imaging equipment
--Elbit manufactures defense-related electronic equipment and
telecommunications (The parent firm of these two is Elron).
--Baraket Technologies, less than a year old, has a phonewriter
      secretarial workstation for about $3000.
--Intel Israel turns out chips, among other products[sic].
--The Sintel Company, founded five years ago, develops, manufactures,
      and markets microprocessor based equipment.
--Others: Lidex, Kulso, Zoran, Fibronics, Microkim, Optrotech

As Haifa is a beautiful coastal city (at a lattitude comparable to
San Diego's), this might be a good place to start.

You could also try the Weizman Institute , they are on the BITNET.

Try to send mail from the Arpanet as:

  VAJULES%WEIZMANN.BITNET@BERKELEY.ARPA

The head of the computer center is a fellow called Jules Finkel.

Or write to him c/o Weizmann Istitute
