DISCO 5/1973 CAREER OBJECTIVE I'm seeking that unique opportunity to get into formal training in operating systems with a company specializing in operating systems and compiler theory. I'm looking for direct hands-on experience. I have a very strong interest in learning VAX/VMS internals, Unix kernel, and learning how to port Unix onto various machines. Some unrelated topic that also interest me are APL time sharing internals, computer security, cryptology, telecommunications, subscription TV scrambling, computer lock and key security, and computer hardware. EMPLOYMENT HISTORY Digital Research Corporation, Monterey, California 5/84 - present. QUALITY ASSURANCE ENGINEER in programming languages. Currently working on development of a complete test suite with documentation and programs to test an entire C compiler with all the new extensions included. Completed a disk compare project to compare for exact byte by byte matches on a master disk against all product disks. An optional varying length serial trade mark number, which could cross boundaries was the only item allowed to mismatch. Disks had to be loaded from an autoloader, and then put into an accept or a reject hopper. There were fifteen possible disk drives and a default disk drive. Project consisted of several independent C programs linked together, including driver selection routines, serial selection and test routines, file open and close routines, compare routines, reject routines, file search routines, and parsing routines. The Wollongong Group, Palo Alto, California, 2/83 - 7/83, and Singer Link, Sunnyvale, California, 11/82 - 1/83. These two companies interacted and The Wollongong Group provided customer support to Singer Link. The Wollongong Group: R & D PROGRAMMER and SOFTWARE ENGINEER. Responsible for writing Unix utilities using C-shell and Bourne-shell scripts, providing technical customer support, installing and documenting Ryan-McFarland Cobol, modifying C source code, writing Fortran programs, backing up the Perkin- Elmer 3230 Unix system, and making distribution tapes. Learned how to install Eunice which emulates Unix on a VAX 11/780 using VMS. Became familiar with the use of the full screen (RAND) editor, the ed editor, sed, awk, makefiles, nroff, the tabstar package, the Perkin-Elmer Unix mail system, and with the implementation and procedures for writing .login, .cshrc, and .profile scripts. Singer Link: PROGRAMMER ANALYST. Responsible for software maintenance in the Computer Resources Department. Main responsibility was to link a set of government Fortran compiler test programs to the VAX 11/780 and to the Perkin- Elmer 832. The programs were to be run and the results evaluated at a later date to see that the Fortran compilers tested met various goverment standards. While working at Singer Link, learned how to use 832 CSS Command Language, the 832 editor, copy32, and 832 backup. Lockheed Missiles and Space Company, Sunnyvale, California, 4/80 - 1/82. REAL TIME SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMMER. Responsible for the development and testing of software for a Remotely Piloted Air Vehicle (RPV Program) in real time Fortran on a VAX 11/780 combined with a Singer-Kearfott 3121. Maintained documentation in a unit development folder consisting of functional descrip- tions of code, inputs, outputs, local variables, and test results. Had some on the job school training in PASCAL, math review, computer logic, and in software engineering. United States Navy, Mare Island, California, and Great Lakes, Illinois, 5/77 - 1/80. DATA SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN. Responsible for performing hardware diagnostics. Attended Basic Electricity and Electronics School, Data Systems A School covering the Univac 1218 and the Univac UYK-20 mini-computers, and Data Systems C School covering the Univac UYK-7 mini-computer and some of its peripheral equipment. Learned how to write machine language applications programs and machine language hardware diagnostic programs for all machines covered. Xerox Corporation, Rochester, New York, 8/73 - 5/77. APL TIME SHARING PROGRAMMER on contract. Responsible for the development of programs to produce high volume sales establishment analysis reports, the development of utility applications programs to aid other users, and also had the responsibility for the maintenance of existing computer programs. Hardware consisted of an IBM 370/155 using DOS, a Xerox Sigma 7, and a Xerox Sigma 9. Government Employees Insurance Company, Chevy Chase, Maryland, 12/72 - 6/73. PROJECT ENGINEER and MAINTENANCE PROGRAMMER. Programmed a system in IBM 370 ASSEMBLER LANGUAGE to process automobile insurance renewal forms. Hardware consisted of an IBM 370/155 using both OS and DOS. Informatics Incorporated, Rockville, Maryland, 8/72 - 12/72. SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMMER. Performed contract programming for the Defense Communications Agency and for the Environmental Protection Agency using PL1 on an IBM 370/155. Made use of the ALPHA time sharing system at a company called COMNET. These two companies also used STIMS-RECON which is a list processing system.
