Among the growing organizations here at Sun is our Consulting group. Basically, we provide "hacker for hire" services to Sun customers, specializing in kernel mods. (device drivers, real-time, etc.) and user-interface goodies. With the NFS we also anticipate work in the filesystem area. In addition, we do a certain amount of design and architecture consulting, and a little bit of strategy (product and market) for those of our customers who think we have something interesting to say. We are looking for people to work in Mt. View and on the East Coast (Boston is best, but NY area or anywhere near an airport has hope). There is a lot of travel involved, especially if you enjoy it, and we tend to have a good time. Salary is flexible, and depends on experience/"value", and there is still some stock left. Work environment is good (especially if you like Sun workstations, since that is what we use, oddly enough) and hours and all that stuff are just a matter of doing what it takes to get the job done. If you (like most of us currently in the group) don't get enough satisfaction from just banging on your keyboard, and feel compelled to talk to people about it, then this may be the job for you. If you are not interested now, we will be hiring steadily for as long as the work comes in (which it has been doing pretty consistently), so keep us in mind.
