LOCATION: University of Texas at Austin, Department of Astronomy SYSTEM: VAX 11/780 + 4.2 BSD (with full source license), with Ethernet and several SUN workstations, and Micom port selection system QUALIFICATIONS: BSCS/EE or equivalent, with 3 years system programming experience including UNIX kernel, drivers, and C. Networking and Berkeley UNIX experience preferred but not required. Experience with VAX system hardware highly desirable. The Department of Astronomy and McDonald Observatory operate this VAX system for use in scientific data reduction, theoretical modelling, image processing, and other areas in support of astronomical research. We have an opening for a UNIX systems programmer for this network, which will be filled as soon as possible subject to administrative approval. The position carries primary responsibility for day-to-day operation of the VAX, including maintenance and upgrade of system software, technical support for system users, installation of new software, supervision of operator personnel, and coordination with DEC field service and local personnel with regard to hardware maintenance.
