		       MICHIGAN TECHNOLOGICAL UNIVERSITY

Applications are invited for faculty positions in
Computer Science. Particular areas desired include: data
bases, operating systems, performance evaluation and
distributed computing; however, all areas of expertise will
be considered. A Ph.D. in Computer Science (or equivalent)
is necessary for all tenure-track positions while an MS in
CS is necessary for the rank of instructor. Applicants for
a senior position should have a strong research record.
Visiting positions may also be available.

The university offers a BS (450 majors) and an MS (15
graduate students) in computer science. Departmental
computing facilities include a VAX 11/750 running 4.2BSD
Unix. This system, dedicated to CS research, is linked to
CSNET and USENET and was acquired through an NSF computer
science research equipment grant. University facilities
include an IBM 4341-based graphics system (part of a $2
million grant from IBM; MTU was one of 21 universities to
receive such grants), two Sperry 1100's, various micro labs,
and an FPS-164/MAX array processor. Current faculty
research interests include optimizing compilers for parallel
	  machines, architecture, software complexity metrics,
artifical intelligence, graphics, user interface design and
	  systolic arrays.

Michigan Tech, located in Michigan's scenic Upper
Peninsula, is a state university. Its approximately 7,000
students are primarily enrolled in engineering and science
degree programs. (Mean test scores for 1984 freshmen: math
SAT 594; math ACT 26.9.) The Computer Science group is in
the planning stages of forming a separate department and is
	  separately advertising for a head.

Salary is competitive and fringe benefits are
excellent. Summer research support is possible. Applicants
