The CWI (Centre for Mathematics & Computer Science) in Amsterdam has a pre- or post-PhD research position available on the B Project. B is a programming language being developed for interactive use on personal computers. The current portable implementation, written in C, is being ported to several personal computers, and a programming environment for B is being defined by iteratively creating an experimental version, using it, and improving it based on experience with its use. The Centre has been a leading institute for fundamental research in mathematics and computer science in The Netherlands for over 35 years, and is well known for its work in the field of programming language design, above all with ALGOL 60 and ALGOL 68. Some 60 researchers work at the CWI in an international atmosphere with good contacts with industry. Although the language spoken in the institute is mainly Dutch, the CWI already employs a significant number of English speaking people, most of whom experience no serious language barriers. All scientific publications in the CWI are in English. Our computer centre speaks Berkeley 4.2 Unix.
