Head, Artificial Intelligence Department

Tektronix' Computer Research Laboratory has an opening for
head of our Artificial Intelligence Department, one of four
Departments in the Lab (along with the Design Environments,
Computer Systems, and Computer Graphics Departments). The
Artificial Intelligence Department is responsible for
research contributions and technology transfer in areas such
as expert systems, symbolic computation, AI design
automation, AI languages and environments, and intelligent
user interaction. A strong team of over 15 researchers is
in place, with further growth planned. This team continues
to make major contributions to Tek's new 4404 Artificial
Intelligence System, which was developed in the Computer
Research Lab.
The Department Head will work with his project managers,
senior technical personnel, and key Division contacts to
provide vision and leadership for the corporation in
artificial intelligence. As a member of CRL Staff, he will
contribute to Tek's overall directions in computer
technology. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in computer
science or equivalent and a proven record of research
contributions and technical supervision.
The Computer Research Laboratory of Tektronix is a group of
over fifty computer scientists and engineers with a strong
record of accomplishment. The Lab operates an advanced
research computing environment consisting of over fifty
high-performance workstations (with SMALLTALK, LISP, and
PROLOG environments), several VAX computers, laser printers,
Ethernet, and CSNET/ARPANET link to the outside world.
Located at Tek's corporate headquarters in the Portland,
Oregon metropolitan area, we are within an hour's drive of
the Cascade Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, and just
minutes away from either urban, suburban or country living.
